He completed a pediatrics residency at Cohen’s Children’s Hospital in New York, an allergy/asthma/immunology fellowship at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, and a second residency in dermatology at the University of Colorado. Dr. Serota has published numerous textbook chapters, online reference articles and peer-reviewed articles in the areas of dermatologic and allergic diseases. He currently lectures nationally in these areas of expertise.

He is also an expert reviewer for the Osteopathic Medical Board of California in dermatology. Dr. Rubenstein grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan. She went on to receive her Masters in Science from Touro University in New York and her Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine from Midwestern University. Dr. Rubenstein completed a residency in both Family Practice and Dermatology from Broward General / Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After completing her residency, Dr. Rubentein and her husband moved back to Chicago and Dr. Rubenstein began working in a private practice on the North Shore. Dr. Rubenstein moved on to lead and still remains the Department Chair of Dermatology at a large community hospital. She enjoys living in the city of Chicago with her husband (who also practices medicine) and their two children. Dr. Spizuoco then spent a year researching Reflectance Confocal Microscopy at Alta Dermatology Residency Program in Mesa, Arizona, after which she went on to complete her residency. During her residency, she received training at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona and Phoenix Children’s Hospital. She was named Chief Resident in her last year of residency. After residency, Dr. Spizuoco completed a fellowship in dermatopathology at the Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology. Following medical school, Dr. Portela completed his internship through Michigan State University at the Oakwood Southshore Hospital. His residency training in Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery was completed at Michigan State University through the Beaumont Trenton Hospital in Trenton, Michigan, where he also received his training in Mohs micrographic surgery and was recognized with the Excellence in Dermatologic Surgery Award. Dr. Portela’s professional memberships include the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, American Society for Mohs Surgery, and the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology. Dr. Portela enjoys all aspects of dermatology, from skin cancer treatment and post-surgical reconstruction to cosmetic enhancement, as well as the care of both adult and pediatric patients. Dr. Alston’s philosophy of care involves listening to his patients and then, as a partnership, engaging in shared decision-making. Dr. Alston is married to his beautiful and supportive wife Ashley. They have been blessed with 3 wonderful daughters: Zoey, Reese and Remington. When he is not in clinic, he enjoys golfing, snowboarding, hiking and spending time with his family.

Robert D. Murgia III, DO, FAAD, is a fellowship-trained cosmetic dermatologic surgeon and board-certified dermatologist, who practices adult and pediatric dermatology. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Boston University and Master of Arts in Medical Sciences at Boston University School of Medicine with honors, followed by his medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a traditional rotating internship at Ohio Health O’Bleness Hospital and a dermatology residency at Hackensack University Medical Center Palisades. Dr. Murgia then went on to complete an American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship at Maryland Dermatology, Laser, Skin, and Vein under the mentorship of Robert Weiss, MD, a world-renowned leader in the field.
